How MAI's Credentials Compare
MAI's credential ladder didn't develop in isolation. At every level, from entry-point education through senior enterprise governance, there's an established credential elsewhere in the market doing adjacent work, and understanding how MAI's credentials relate to those is often more useful than reading any one credential's page on its own. These comparisons go through the same discipline: every figure is pulled directly from the other body's own published materials, not estimated or inferred, and each page states plainly where the two credentials genuinely overlap and where they don't.
Comparisons
| MAI Credential | Compared Against | Governing Body | What the Comparison Covers | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Marketing Architecture Foundations Certificate (MAFC) | General marketing certificates (CIM Level 3, AMA entry tier, platform certificates) | CIM, AMA, and others | Foundational knowledge versus tactical and vendor-specific skill-building | Read |
| Certified Marketing Architecture Associate (CMAA) | Certificate in Professional & Digital Marketing (Level 4) | Chartered Institute of Marketing | Entry-professional diagnostic competency versus a formal educational qualification | Read |
| Certified Marketing Architect (CMA) | Professional Certified Marketer, Marketing Management | American Marketing Association | Practitioner-level design and implementation competency versus broad management knowledge | Read |
| Certified Marketing Architecture Officer (CMAO) | Directorship Certification | National Association of Corporate Directors | Enterprise marketing governance versus general board governance | Read |
| Certified Marketing Governance Board (CMGB) | Directorship Certification and CGEIT | NACD and ISACA | Marketing governance oversight versus board governance and IT governance credentials | Read |
Why these comparisons exist
None of these pages are built to argue that MAI's credentials are simply better. In several cases, the honest answer runs the other way, at least on specific dimensions: CIM and AMA carry market recognition MAI hasn't built yet, and a total beginner is often better served starting with a general credential than with MAI's more structural material. What each page tries to do instead is show clearly what's actually being assessed, by whom, under what conditions, and at what cost, so the comparison can be made on real terms rather than on brand familiarity alone.
